TRAVERSE GEORGIA  (9 Days)

Day 1

Arrival to Tbilisi Airport, where you will be met by the representatives of Concord Travel Company: Tour Manager and Guide. Transfer to the Hotel.

Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2

10:00. Departure to the capital of the Georgian Kingdom of Iberia-Mtskheta . Visit historic Jvari Monastery(6th c.) which is outstanding example of medieval religious architecture in the Caucasus and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c.) -known as the "the Living Pillar Cathedral." Both Cathedrals show the high artistic and cultural level attained by this ancient kingdom. Explore Samtavro monastery - the former residence of the lords of Mtskheta. Visit Gori, Stalin's native city. There the Stalin statue is still standing, which is the only Stalin statue remaining in the Soviet Union. See the museum which has three divisions, all located in the town's central square. It contains many items actually or allegedly owned by Stalin, including some of his office furniture, his personal effects and gifts made to him over the years.

15:00 After lunch The next stop is the famous cave town of Uplistsikhe, which is dated from the 6th century B.C. and is first mentioned in the chronicles of the 1st century A.D. Arrive in Kutaisi- Kutaisi was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis. Archeological evidence indicates that the city functioned as the capital of the kingdom of Colchis as early as the second millennium BC. In 975-1122 Kutaisi was the capital of the united Kingdom of Georgia, and in the 15th century-the capital of the Imeretian Kingdom.

Day 3

Leave for the Church of the Virgin in Martvili (7th- 14th century) is one of the most significant monuments in Georgia and one of the oldest and most important centers in Western Georgia, having served as the Episcopal Chair of the Georgian Orthodox Church from the 10th Century until its abrogation by Russian governors at the beginning of 19th Century.

Visit the city of Archaeopolis-Nokalakevi. The site consists of a lower town and a citadel, set in a loop of the river Tekhuri where it emerges from a gorge in the mountains onto the Colchian plain. The lower town borders the river to the south and west and a steep slope to the north.

Have a look at Dadiani Palace Museum in Zugdidi, (Samegrelo Region). It is one of the largest and most important regional museums in Georgia. The museum is home to more than 41,000 historical treasures, including archaeological finds representing the antique period of Greek and Georgian culture; a collection of Christian sacred objects (icons, various religious objects); samples of European applied art and fine art; and collections of the royal family of Dadiani, including numerous items connected with Napoleon Bonaparte, manuscripts and charters; crystal, china, faience crockery and so on.

Overnight in Zugdidi.

Day 4
Drive to Svaneti- the region of the highest mountains and glaciers and the most long-lasting ancient traditions. Explore lower Svaneti. Visit old towers, footprint of Jesus Christ as well.

Overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 5

Departure to Upper Svaneti-Mestia. In Mestia we visit the traditional Svanetian house and watchtower and a unique collection of icons and crosses at the Ethnographic Museum.

Overnight in Mestia. Explore Upper Svaneti.

Day 6

10:00 A three-hour drive will takes us to the highest village in Europe – Ushguli (2200m). Ushguli and whole Upper Svaneti region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village is most famous for its In Mestia we visit the traditional Svanetian house and watchtower and a unique collection of icons and crosses at the Ethnographic Museum. From her get the view of the highest mountain in Georgia – Mt. Shkhara (5068m). In Ushguli we visit Lamaria Church (12th century) and then walk up the hill to Queen Tamar’s Tower. In the evening we return to Mestia.

Day 7

Return to Kutaisi. Visit the UNIESCO Heritage site-Bagrati Cathedral (11thc.)- marvelous example of the domed-church architecture of the high Medieval period. Ruins of ancient cathedral proudly look down Kutaisi city from Ukimerioni Hill. Bagrati Cathedral is hard to miss from the city center. Hike to Motsameta Monastery (8th-11th cc.). Georgian word “Motsameta” means in English “Place of Believers”. Here you will have the chance your dreams come true since there is the small tunnel inside the monastery, and while crossing it you can make a wish. Explore the territories nearby.

Day 8

9:00 Drive to Tbilisi. Tbilisi-the capital city of Georgia was founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang Gorgasali, the Georgian King of Kartli (Iberia). It was made into a capital in the 6th century. Nowadays Tbilisi is a significant industrial, social, and cultural center of Georgia. Explore Tbilisi and visit sights in Tbilisi city Narikala fortress (4th century AD); Metekhi church (13th c.); Sioni Cathedral (13th-century version with some changes from the 17th to the 19th centuries). Anchiskhati Basilica of St Mary (6th c.); Sulphur Baths located in old Tbilisi.

Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 9

Free time. Leaving Party and Dinner at the restaurant.

Transfer to the Airport of Tbilisi for departure.
